Cap de Creus Natural Park
From July 1st to August 31st, vehicle access to the coves of Roses in the Cap de Creus Natural Park will be regulated between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Welcome to the Cap de Creus Natural Park, a unique destination for nature lovers and adventurers looking for surprising landscapes.
The Cap de Creus Natural Park, located in the north-east extreme of the Iberian Peninsula, is the first marine-terrestrial park in Catalonia. The park certification of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism guarantees the commitment of the territory in the environment preservation and continuous improvement.
Its incomparable beauty is due to a unique combination of rock formations sculpted by erosion, crystal-clear waters and an exceptional biodiversity in both flora and fauna. This privileged environment offers an infinite number of activities, from hiking and cycling routes to scuba diving and snorkelling.
Flora, fauna and geology of Cap de Creus
Exploring the Cap de Creus Natural Park is diving in a world of biodiversity. The plant species, adapted to the harsh climatic conditions, include Mediterranean shrubs, unique endemic plants and attractive subaquatic species. As for the fauna, the park is a refuge for numerous sea birds, reptiles and mammals. Wildlife can be observed in its natural habitat.
Within the park, there are two integral terrestrial reserves, which demonstrate the safeguarding of the most precious values: Cap de Creus point (with the mythical Cap de Creus lighthouse, where the film The Light at the Edge of the World (1971), by Kevin Billington, was filmed), and Cap Norfeu, a site of exceptional geological and biological singularity, where traces of volcanic activity dating back some 10 million years have even been discovered.
When it comes to the marine area, three areas of great underwater wealth are protected: Cap Gros, Cap de Creus point and Cap Norfeu.
The spectacular geological outcrops are one of the most significant features of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Their complicated and beautiful shapes often make the visitor's imagination run wild, as he sees images of real animals or mythical beings (lions, dragons, camels, alligators, cats, rats...). It is the wind and the sea, which with their incessant activity have been shaping the geological landscape of the natural park up to the present day.
Plan your visit
The Cap de Creus Natural Park is a must on your trip to Roses. For hiking lovers, the possibilities are vast, thanks to the rich historical heritage and the archaeological sites on land and at sea that can be found there.
The coastal paths, megalithic routes (Megalithic and the dry stone 1 itinerary, Megalithic and the dry stone 2 itinerary, Megalithic and landscape 3 itinerary), cliffs and ascents with panoramic views of the bay of Roses are just some of the possibilities offered in this area.
Make sure you bring appropriate footwear, water and sun protection to make the most of your experience. Don't forget to check the weather forecast and the park's recommendations for a safe and enriching experience. Precisely to safeguard the continuity of the park, in spring and summer, the two most sensitive spots have access conditions.
Roses and the Cap de Creus Natural Park are waiting for you to offer an unforgettable experience in one of the most beautiful places in Catalonia!
