Bay of Roses

The bay of Roses is the main bay of the Catalan coast. It opens between the Cap de Creus Natural Park and the massif of Montgrí and has a width of 15 km and a depth of 7 km.

The towns of Roses, Castelló d'Empúries - Empuriabrava, Sant Pere Pescador and L'Escala are lined up along the bay.

Euclid, the Greek mathematician considered the father of geometry, established in the 4th century BC that the canon of beauty followed the proportion 0.61870, known as the golden ratio. This divine proportion, which according to him was found in nature itself, was replicated in Greek architectural constructions, as it corresponded geometrically to a divine canon.

Years later, in 1967, an expert engineer discovered in an investigation that this perfect relationship was to be found in the profile of the bay of Roses.

Today, the Bay of Roses offers more than 45 km of beaches, 15 km of coves and 50 km of navigable canals. The coastline is made up of cliffs and small coves with calm, crystal-clear waters. The beaches of the bay have shallow waters, ideal for families and sailing sports.

Roses bay is bounded by the Cap de Creus Natural Park, to the north, the Montgrí, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter Natural Park, to the south, and the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, in its heart. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with mild winters and warm summers, and the water temperature ranges between 15 and 20 degrees celsius.
